Mass at Tomb of St. Peter (crypt beneath main altar)

Well, friends, sorry that I have been unable to post as regularly as hoped regarding our youth pilgrimage to Rome.  The WiFi access at our residence has been practically non-existent.

The visit has been a tremendous success from my vantage point.  No doubt, the Good Lord is the sole judge of open hearts and the willingness of anyone to walk more closely with Christ.  However, the last few days have found these young people putting in long days, visiting the tombs of many great saints and apostles, and staying positive.

This morning, we celebrated Mass at the Tomb of St. Peter.  Later, everyone had the opportunity to visit the excavations of the necropolis beneath St. Peter’s and learn about the process of excavation from 1939 – 1954 that led to the discovery of the bones of St. Peter.  The Scavi Tour is in my estimation the best ticket in town!

We have our farewell dinner in a couple of hours, and then about a third of the group will return to the States Saturday morning, and the rest of the group will continue touring south of Rome for four more days.
