Logo Year of MercyUnless you have been living under a rock, you know that the Church is celebrating a Jubilee Year of Mercy.  Here is a brief description of the Year from the decree of Pope Francis:

The Jubilee Year of Mercy
We need constantly to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it. Mercy: the word reveals the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Mercy: the ultimate and supreme act by which God comes to meet us. Mercy: the fundamental law that dwells in the heart of every person who looks sincerely into the eyes of his brothers and sisters on the path of life. Mercy: the bridge that connects God and man, opening our hearts to a hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness. (Pope Francis, Misericordiae Vultus, 2)

As part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Diocese of Cheyenne will be hosting a day-long retreat in each deanery. Besides myself, the team includes Fr. Cliff Jacobson, pastor of St. Matthew’s in Gillette, and Deacon Kim Carroll, Gillette. In this retreat, we will consider meaning of mercy; look at our own personal stories of where we have experienced mercy and who have been the Angels of Mercy in our lives; we will look at Jesus, the face of mercy, and experience His merciful love through the gift of Reconciliation and Prayer; we will break open the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy and set goals to be Angels of Mercy in our families and communities.

The first of these retreats is this Saturday, at St. Matthews in Gillette.  Here is the complete schedule.  Please, come and join us!
