Today I arrived back in Cheyenne from Bend, Oregon.  I made a quick trip to be present as one of my classmates was installed yesterday as the 7th Bishop of Baker, Oregon.

Bishop-elect Liam Carey (standing) at luncheon with bishops prior to Ordination. Seated is Bishop Ed Burns of Juneau, Alaska.

Bishop Carey is a great addition to the Episcopacy of our Church, and we are honored and blessed at his election and ordination as a Successor of the Apostles.  He is humble, and as his remarks at the end of the ordination Mass indicate, he is also very gracious and eloquent.  The People of God of Baker will be well-served by this faithful servant.

The time in Oregon was brief, but was a great ending to a wonderful week.  I’m sure it will be a rare event that I am able to celebrate the beauty of Holy Orders as this week.  Within three days, I was privelged to celebrate the “fullness of the priesthood” with the ordinations of deacons, a priest, and a bishop.

This week served as another precious ‘shot of grace’ in reminding me not only of the responsibilities that are mine, but also of the tremendous privelege!  Time spent with the people of this Diocese earlier in the week, completed by some quality time with brother bishops in Oregon was invigorating.

The sunset last night in Oregon as we celebrated Bishop Carey’s ordination pretty well summed up once again the truth that we have an awesome God.  Let us always give Him thanks!

Peace,
