On the feast of St. Robert Bellarmine, many pastoral leaders from around the state of Wyoming are beginning to make their way to Casper, where this week will be held a three day institute on the topic of Catechesis.

St. Robert Bellarmine was a great, Jesuit intellect who forcefully and successfully developed arguments in defense of the faith of his time.  As such, he is the patron saint of catechists and catechumens.  Catechists are those who teach the faith, and catechumens are those learning the faith in preparation to formally profess and be received into the faith.

I ask that you pray for all who gather this week for our Institute on Catechesis.  It is so important that our people continually grow in the knowledge of the faith, and critically important that we learn how to credibly proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ in the midst of today’s culture.  Please ask St. Robert Bellarmine for his intercession upon our efforts this week.

Preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching.  For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.  As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:2-5)
